  • There's this guy in one of my classes. We'll call him "D." And he's a huge pain in the tail. He is in my writing skills-type class, and he's one of those guys who can never follow instructions, wastes the class' time, and pisses everyone off.

Now, this is a small class. There are only 12 people in it. So, his overbearing personality is basically ruining the class for the rest of us. In a larger class, his effect is somewhat diluted.

So, my friend Jennifer and I stayed after class yesterday to speak to the professor about it. There is really nothing he can do at this point. I mean, you cannot drop someone from a class for being an asshole.

But we wanted to express to the professor that we are all very frustrated with the way D is acting, and that we don't appreciate his open hostility and his inability to focus on what the class is really about. (Somehow I got elected as class spokesperson on this issue.)

The Professor said that he would speak to D, but I fear this will only make things worse. Although, who knows? Maybe D will take the Professor's words to heart. (Yeah, and I might suddenly discover I am the queen of the universe!)

Law school is so much like high school it kills me sometimes. I mean, D obviously feels like he needs more attention than he is getting, and has decided to act out in class to get it. He's that obnoxious but unstable guy that everyone acts civil to because he seems dangerous. I don't know about you guys, but we had 2 of those kind at my high school.

In other news, I get my score for my "math" class midterm on friday. I am really nervous about it. I hope I didn't screw it up too bad. This "math" class is something like Business Basics for Law Students. It is really kind of interesting except for the fact that the professor insists on expressing everything in algebraic equations.

One of the reasons I decided to be a lawyer is because I am really bad at math. (If I were good at math, I would've gone to med school!) I have not had any sort of a math class for 15 years. My undergraduate degree did not have any math requirement. So, silly me, I decided that it was time for me to "get over" my fear of math. How wrong I was! The Professor does not realize just how math illiterate most of us are. So he doesn't bother to show the most basic part of solving the equations. And most of us are really confused.

But I have learned how to read the stock pages, so that is one good thing.

I also found out that I got into the Childrens' Advocacy Clinic for next semester. I am really excited about that. I will be doing family law work - hopefully helping battered women get out of their abusive marriages. That should be really great, not just because of the subject matter but also because we are certified to practice in the Florida Court System for this class, and we actually represent people in court.

A good public service, and great experience for me! Although I have to admit I am really nervous. These are people's lives! I sure hope I don't mess up!

Grad Check! 6 months and one week until graduation.

So, here's the bad joke of the day:

Sister Margaret died and through some error found herself in hell.

She immediately called Saint Peter and said, "This is Sister Margaret. There's been a terrible mistake!"

She explained the situation, and Saint Peter said he'd get right on it.

The next day the nun didn't hear from Saint Peter so she called him again.

"Please set this error straight before tomorrow," she begged. "There's an orgy planned for tonight, and everyone *must* attend!"

"Of course, Sister," he said. "I'll get you out of there right away."

Apparently, her plight slipped his mind, and the following morning Saint Peter received another phone call from hell.

He picked up the receiver with trepidation and started to listen.

He heard the following, "Hey, Pete, this is Maggie. Never mind!"

  • Oh Cali girl- you are my hero. 6 more months!

  • I'm surprised that you haven't experienced a D before.  Seems like I had one in EVERY CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN.  Good luck "handling" him.  Gigi

  • No math in 15 years?  Wow, I wish that would happen to me.  I haven't gotten a D before either.  My parents would kill me.

  • Hon, I'm sure he's just going to law school to make up for a lack of something... It's why my ex roomie went.. that and because his "parents made him". (rolls eyes) Wishing you well, and happy graduation.
