F**king taxes
So, my husband was unemployed for several months last year. And he’s unemployed again as of a couple weeks ago, since his contract job ended.
However, that is not why I am here.
I am here because the unemployment benefits my husband received were subject to income tax. Excuse me, but WTF?
Hey, sorry you are unemployed – here’s some money. We know it is less than 1/2 of what you make each month, but we want to help. And, oh yeah…we’re gonna hit you when you’re down and tax you on it, too!

But hey, you’ll start getting an extra $13 this month – doesn’t that make up for alllllll the taxes you pay otherwise? (insert sarcasm and eye-roll here). SOMEBODY has to pay for all the spending – might as well be you. I think the Fair Tax is getting quite a bit of attention this year for a good reason. Sorry to hear that – these are some scary times.

Damn, they should tell you that the first day you get unemployment so it isn’t a surprise.
