  • Tyche has inspired us with another round of Truth or Dare!  (Maybe next time I will take the plunge and
    ask for a Dare!!)

    I think one of the
core things about most people is that we are more critical of ourselves than
anyone else is, especially of our perceived weaknesses.  However,
sometimes our weaknesses aren't negative things
(having a soft spot for puppies is not a bad
    thing, IMO)
    .  What
weakness do you perceive (that perception may or may not be shared by others)
that you would like to change about yourself, and why?

I agree, having a soft spot for puppies is not a bad thing
at all.  I love my puppies.

I also agree that humans tend to be their own worst
critics.  I think everyone must have that
critical inner voice, even those who are considered “divas” by our
society.  Think about it…why else would Cher
have had all that plastic surgery when she was perfectly gorgeous already?  Must have been that critical inner voice
saying “you can be so much better than you are…”

I have a whole truckload of weaknesses that I’d love to
change.  Really, I do.  What is really weighing on my mind right now,
however, is that I am a huge procrastinator.
My motto has definitely been “why do today what you can put off ‘til
    tomorrow.”  Bad…very very bad.

Not exactly what one looks for in their lawyer, is it?

So, I’ve been trying to work on this whole procrastination
thing.  It hasn’t bit me in the ass yet…but
I expect it will just any day now.

Back in college I used to tell myself that I was
procrastinating because I worked better under pressure.  And yes, I did get good grades despite my colossal
procrastination.  Now, however, I live in
the real world, and I cannot really get away with waiting until the night
before to start preparing for a trial or something.

I’ve got two pieces of research that need to be done this
week.  One of them should have been done
last week, in fact.  Am I doing
those?  No!  Here I sit, blogging about procrastinating
when I should be working.  *sigh*

Every morning when I come to the office I say to myself, “Today
there will be no procrastinating!  You
will get right on that to-do list and get it done!”  And it never happens.  Sure, I get some stuff done.  Obviously I do, or I’d be in REALLY big
trouble with my clients.  But, I do
believe my life would be so much easier if I could just get past this block
that I have.  I’d have very little stress
because all the stuff that is hanging over my head would be done regularly
instead of building up until I only have a little while to get it taken care
    of.

So, any ideas on how to overcome chronic
procrastination?  I could really use some
advice.  But I’ll understand if you wait
until tomorrow to give it to me.

  • If I knew how to overcome procrastination my life would be very different LOL Let me know when you find the answer! Hugs!!!

  • You do realize that by responding to the truth so quickly it's kind of tough to believe you're a procrastinator.  *g*

Of course, I share the same fault, so I can totally understand.

  • You sure didn't procrastinate with this challenge I understand your dilemma. My only solution for procrastination is to create a to-do list on a daily basis and go through the list checking things off as they are completed. Without that to-do list, I get nothing done.

  • I keep meaning to give you some tips on overcoming procrastination, but I keep putting it off. Go figure.

  • I'm beginning to think that there are more procrastinators than those who get it done right away. It's a club I'm in and I'm dying to get out too! Good luck!

  • Can't help you here I'm afraid. I'm the world's worst procrastinator. Our apartment for instance is full of stuff I should have dumped more than 20 years ago, I kid you not. Luckily, Renee is very understanding about it all, even though I'm painfully aware of the fact that all my junk must be driving her nuts. But I have made a humble start, and have begun to sort through my stuff, throwing out things that even I don't want to keep. But once I'm in the swing of it, things usually get finished.

  • Being in college right now, I definitely have the same procrastination problem.  Definitely something for (probably) everyone to work on!!!

  • procrastination is my middle name.  or maybe my first name.  at the very least, it's my motto.  have deadline, will procrastinate.
